Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
This policy explains what K-Signal (“we”) collects, why, how long we keep it, who else handles it, and your rights. K-Signal is operated by its founder, who is the controller of your personal information and its privacy officer.
1. What we collect and why
| Information | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Account (if you sign in): email address and a session cookie; with Google, also your name, profile picture and Google account identifier | To sign you in and run features you ask for (alerts) | Until you ask us to delete your account; sessions expire after about a week |
| Alerts: questions you follow, edition, when we last emailed you | To email you new stories | Until you stop the alert or delete your account |
| Questions you type or say | To search and write a brief. Answers are kept, with the question, as public answer pages that do not identify you. Questions are counted per day and edition to show trending searches, never with who asked. | Answer pages while useful; daily counts up to 2 years |
| Voice recordings (only when your browser’s own speech recognition is unavailable) | To turn your spoken question into text | Not stored: transcribed and discarded |
| Messages you send through the contact form: name, email, company, message | To reply, and to keep a record of legal notices | Up to 3 years |
| Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, pages requested | To deliver the site, stop abuse and limit searches per visitor, and keep the Service secure | IP addresses for rate limits are not stored; server logs are kept for a few days |
| Usage counts: clicks on outbound links per day, site and part of the page; page views measured by Cloudflare Web Analytics without cookies | To understand what is useful and report to partners in aggregate | Aggregate only, up to 2 years |
| On your device: your language choice in local storage | To open your edition | Until you clear it |
We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles. Advertisers receive no information about you. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 14; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
2. Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws)
We process account and alert data to provide the Service you ask for (contract); questions, technical data and usage counts for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving a search service, balanced against your rights; and anything else with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Where Korean law applies, we collect only what is needed for the purposes above, and your sign-in is your consent to the account processing described here.
3. Who else handles your information
We use these providers to run the Service, under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing their services to us:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA, global network): hosting, database, AI models that write briefs and transcribe voice, image thumbnails, email delivery, security and cookieless analytics.
- Modal Labs, Inc. (USA): a backup AI model host, used only when Cloudflare’s models are unavailable; receives the question and the sources, not your identity.
- Google LLC (USA): sign-in, if you use it. Your browser’s own speech recognition (for example Google in Chrome or Apple in Safari) handles voice when available, under that company’s terms.
- jsDelivr: delivers the animation library the pages use; your browser connects to it directly.
K-Signal itself requests information cards from Wikipedia, weather from Open-Meteo, exchange rates from Frankfurter, and pictures from news outlets; your IP address is not passed to them. When you follow a link to another site, that site receives your visit and a note that it came from K-Signal. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect rights, safety and the Service, or as part of a transfer of the Service to a successor (including a company formed to run K-Signal), which will remain bound by this policy.
4. International transfers
We are based outside Korea, Japan and the EU, and our providers process information in the United States and other countries where Cloudflare operates. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses and data processing terms. By using the Service from Korea, you are informed that your information is transferred to and stored with the providers above, in the countries named, for the purposes and periods in this policy, through their networks at the time you use the Service.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to restrict or object to processing, or to withdraw consent. You can sign out at any time, stop any alert from its email, and ask for your account to be deleted. Send requests through the contact form (topic “Legal”) from, or naming, your account email; we answer within 30 days (10 days where Korean law requires) and may need to confirm it is you. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your data protection authority (for example the Personal Information Protection Commission in Korea or Japan, or your EU or UK authority).
6. Cookies and similar technology
We use one essential cookie, set when you sign in, to keep you signed in, local storage for your language, and session storage that counts searches in the open tab, so sign-up reminders stop after two; it stays on your device. Google’s sign-in may set its own cookies when you use it. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so no cookie banner is needed.
7. Security and deletion
Information is encrypted in transit, access is limited to what running the Service requires, and providers are bound to keep it secure. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you and authorities of a breach as the law requires. When information is no longer needed, we delete it from our systems; backups are overwritten in the normal course.
8. Changes and contact
We will post changes here with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell you on the Service or by email. Privacy officer: K-Signal’s founder, through the contact form (topic “Legal”).
