Bithumb, a major South Korean cryptocurrency exchange, suffered a hacking incident that leaked personal information of hundreds of customers, according to reports. The breach occurred when an unauthorized external party abnormally accessed the company's internal mobile groupware system, and the exchange is analyzing the exact scope of the leak. The hack is part of a broader wave of cyberattacks on South Korean financial firms, including Daishin Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments, which prompted the presidential office to convene an emergency meeting on October 28. The Financial Supervisory Service has dispatched on-site inspection teams to affected firms, and the government plans large-scale vulnerability inspections on around 170 key IT infrastructures.
