President Lee Jae Myung posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Nov. 7 a message titled "Praise but do not worship; support but do not idolize," saying that while politicians and leaders need both praise and criticism, it should not reach the level of religious praise or worship. He added that democracy does not come or protect itself, and only citizens' constant participation and practice, responding to truth and justice with living reason, can create democracy. The Chosun Ilbo and Dong-A Ilbo both reported the remarks, with Dong-A Ilbo noting he emphasized rational participation and warned against blind obedience to politicians.
