LG CNS completes Jakarta AI data center, first overseas build for Korean firm
LG CNS said on Nov. 2 that it had completed construction of a 30-megawatt (MW) hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, becoming the first Korean company to build an AI data center overseas for a local client. The project was ordered by KMG, a joint venture of Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, with a contract value of about 100 billion won at the time of the August order. The facility is 11 stories with a total floor area of 46,281 square meters. LG CNS said it secured customers for the entire capacity before completion, and plans to expand into additional Indonesian projects and Asia-Pacific, North American, and European markets. The completion was marked at a ceremony on Nov. 1 attended by LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun and Sinar Mas Group Chairman Franky O. Widjaja. Korean media framed the event as accelerating AI infrastructure competition, with Samsung SDS also breaking ground on an AI data center in Gumi the same day.
