North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has arrived in China's border city of Dandong via a newly opened bridge linking the two nations, a South Korean government source told Yonhap News Agency on Saturday, Oct. 24. Yonhap reports Kim was seen off by China's top political adviser upon leaving Dandong, and a ruling party source said he appeared to be planning to return home Saturday after the visit. KBS World describes the trip as a surprise visit, Kim's first to China in more than a year. Separately, Korea Times reports that in Pyongyang, Kim called for the military to build the "strongest army" in a speech to commanders, as reported by North Korean state media the same day.
